Like so many, it broke my heart to see NOLA so devastated by Katrina in 2005. New Orleans is such an ancient, romantic, wild sort of place. It didn’t seem possible for anything to break her that way, but broken she was, and the reclamation of this great city is still a work in progress nearly 6 years later.
As sometimes happens though, creative solutions arise from the wreckage…
This amazing bed by Etsy seller matthewholdren is made from the floor joists of a locally deconstructed home, with a headboard of salvaged decorative wrought iron railing. SO New Orleans!
The juxtaposition of the delicate looking iron work and the rough sawn timber is really appealing to me.
Yep. I’m digging this idea. What do you think?
Oh, and be sure to check out the rest of his shop too. Especially those lamps!

Very clever idea. It goes to show that a little imagination and elbow grease can make truly beautiful things. Something like this comes with its own story built in.
