Katra Chair

Todays’ post is brought to you by the letter h.

Kidding.  It’s a chair.  Shocking for a design blog to write about a chair, right?

But this isn’t just any chair.  It’s the Katra Chair by Aparte Studio of France, and it is made from a very interesting material.

Although this may look like a nice, woven fiberglass, it is in fact made of a composite using ramie.  In other words, it is made largely of nettle fibers!

I love that something this sleek and modern in design could be made from one of the oldest fiber crops known to mankind.  The potential for eventually replacing the more problematic fiberglass with a rapidly renewable plant product is also exciting.

Thanks for visiting!
