The glass panels are clean, contemplative, luminous… and evocative of spring?
Well, yes, all that. There are a many sustainable glass products out there, but this creation by Coverings Etc. is impressive in a quiet, well-grounded, Zen kind of way.
Seen close up, Bio-glass evokes carpets of emerald moss, the dark, bare beauty of trees after an autumn rain, the shimmer of ice and snow. As part of a project, it’s sumptuous, striking, and restful all at the same time. Take a look here.
Maybe it’s silly to like a product because it helps to lower blood pressure, but I happen to enjoy serenity.
Of course there’s the strong green ethic to like, as well. Along with its bevy of awards – among them, the 2010 Red Dot Design Award – Bio-glass is Cradle to Cradle Silver certified by the U.S. Green Building Council, which is about as eco-friendly as one can get.
Bio-glass is made from 100% post-consumer glass taken from recycling centers. As no colorants, epoxies, or resins are added during the manufacturing process, the color of the finished product is true to its source, while the layers of compressed glass within the panels allow for the retention and play of light. The effect is ethereal.
It is available in sheet sizes measuring approximately 110” x 50” and .75” thick, and is available in six colors. The panels come with faceted edges and are suitable for flooring, wall details, counter & worktops, and decorative purposes. They’re durable (of course) and, being closed surface, are easily maintained.
And if in a project’s future change is desired, the Bio-glass panels can be recycled and used anew. How perfect is that?
