I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

In order to enjoy the the holidays with my family, (and maybe indulge in a little too much hot buttered rum), I will be taking a break from blogging from now until the New Year. I’m looking forward to 2010 and new and exciting content to share with you!
Until then…

I was excited to see that Idea Paint has introduced the new “Lil’ Bit” kit, which contains just enough of their terrific dry erase paint (in White), to cover 3 square feet. The next size up kit covers 25 sf, and costs $99, while the Lil’ Bit kit is a mere pittance at $25! Durable, water based, easy to apply, and environmentally friendly, Idea Paint can be applied to any flat surface. Walls, furniture, refrigerators, chalkboards – you name it! I thought it would be fun to take a little walk through the world of Etsy, the premiere website for finding handmade goods, and see what a search for “sustainable table” came up with.

First up is this fun cocktail/coffee table by Michael Arras. Created from multiple free form circles of bamboo plywood that are joined together using mortise and tenon joints, it has a a nice, organic feel to it. Made to order for $699 with a 3 to 4 week lead time.

Re-Nest doesn’t have a telephone booth as a library, but they do have this fun 100 sf remodel, made with salvaged materials.

“It is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation.” – Ben Franklin
Peppered throughout with quotes like that above, “Downtown Chic”, from Sixx Design, is equal parts inspiration, design philosophy treatise, and how-to book.

Now, many projects (and six kids) later they have developed a thriving design business in New York City and environs.
